Last month, I attended a nexyNY Focus and Feedback session. This type of mindshare meeting reminded me a bit of Techdirt Greenhouse, although much less structured and organized. There were two F&F sessions held simultaneously: 30elm and Sportsvite. During each, about a dozen or so gathered, listened to the respective company's main challenges, and offered both positive feedback and constructive criticism.
I sat in with the Sportsvite crowd. In a nutshell, Sportsvite.com is a site that connects passionate sports and fitness fanatics. It was created for:
the 100 million people who love playing sports. To help, we've built a free invitation, management, and social network for our members to organize their sports (and fitness) and connect with other players.
They offer the following features and tools to help manage individual and team sports activities:
- Organizing games, RSVP, reminders, commentary, positions, player recruiting
- Searching connections between teams and players for organized games
- Scheduling management of practices, games, and reminders
- Location delivery (e.g., venues, sports bars, gyms and outdoor meetup locales)
- Statistics of the league, team and individual
- Profiles of teams and individuals (age, skill, sport, playing time of choice, availability)
- Messaging to members or to groups
- Listings of any event, tournament, request
- Video of games, try-outs, demonstrations of skill
- Mobile-capable for last minute changes and updates
It's an incredible resource and tool for recreational sports, individual sports and fitness fanatics to connect, and organize. Sportsvite evangelist Brian Litvack pointed out to me (as the only female, clearly out-demographed, participant of the group's session) that Sportsvite's members are 40% female. And, that it's not limited to recreational sports such as volleyball, dodgeball, softball and football - but extends out to hiking, skiing, yoga and horseback riding. Very cool.
Check out their tongue-in-cheek promotional video sporting the favored tagline, "Stop Playing with Yourself":
To note: nextNY is doing some really great stuff within the NYC tech scene. There are some incredibly impressive members who are contributing to the conversation.
Check out www.nexo.com.
It is a great online group site for sports teams, families, work groups, clubs, etc. It is very flexible, customizable, secure and free.
