Darren Herman is a 25 year old angel investor, board member, and serial entrepreneur. He was recognized by BusinessWeek last year as one of the Top 25 Entrepreneurs Under 25, named Sony's #1 Wired Student in North America, and the in-game advertising company he co-founded, IGA Worldwide, was named as an Avenue-A/Razorfish Breakthrough Company of the Year.
I first heard Darren speak at an event held by the nextNY group - and was blown away by what he has accomplished in his young life, how incredibly well spoken and worldly he was, and in general by the level of intelligence he brought to the conversation.
Since that evening I've been following what he's doing, reading his blog (which I highly recommend!) and learning about something called darrenSalon, otherwise known as "Intelligent Digital Media and Technology Conversations" that are:
Bringing together media, advertising, venture capital, finance, strategy folks and more.
Details on the Manhattan-centric darrenSalon gatherings, sized at about 75-200 people, will be released in May 2007. The more intimate WineTable event, however, is something a bit different:
a WineTable is a small get together at a local bar, lounge, home or restaurant, where the 6-8 members of the conversation share a bottle of red or white wine and chat about a specific subject. The event location is only disclosed to the participants in order to keep the event attendance minimal so that everyone can speak towards the subject of the WineTable and keep conversation flowing.
Yesterday evening Darren informed me that I am to be one of the few to participate in the inaugural WineTable on March 27th. Eight of us will share a bottle of red wine somewhere in the East Village, and discuss the topic: the future of Apple, Inc. I am honored, to say the least, and am certainly looking forward to this experience.
