Yesterday, while waiting for my Broncos game to start (of course, only for them to be pulverized by Pittsburgh), I logged on and skimmed through my RSS feeds, landing on Guy Kawasaki's post about his blog's Loop. Looked pretty cool. And, I am very much into anything viral (that really works). So I poked around, messed up a few times, corrected myself and finally got my picture up in the loop, with comments, subtitle, links and all.
Well, today Guy published "the first and last Guy's Blog's Loop's Photo Contest Winners.” I'm proud to say we came in number six under the "best name of linked-to blog." Thanks, Guy! I love the name The Long Blonde Tail, and will speak more about it, in context, later.
Check out some of the other categories, which include "Worst hair" and "Closest to pornographic." BTW, all winners get signed copies of his book. Smart Guy. :-)
In the meantime as someone intimately familiar with social networks, I have a few thoughts for the Film Loop crew.
1. Kudos - this is a great concept, and even greater presentation. 'Cool' was the most common word used by Guy's 'Loopers' (is that what members of the Loop are called?)
2. Please, pretty please, will you make this more social?? I would love to see an optional "Message/Email me" link to other members so we can really "meet" if we wanted to. Comments, the way they are set up now, are a bit confusing and not seamless. Think Flickr comment style. Much easier to follow the conversation (and add people to my "group", if so desired.)
3. How about integrating, again optional, the use of Yahoo!/Google maps so people can see where in the world I am as compared to everyone else. It's pretty cool. Think Frappr.
4. Any chance of a web based app vs. a download?
5. I'm not sure how to really (easily and seamlessly) communicate with 'Loopers' as it stands, now. I tend to feel like there is a static audience with some potentially great and interesting stories out there. But they seem 'frozen.'
6. Down the road: what about integrating an optional (and inexpensive) list serv to open the conversation [the content of Guy's daily blog posts, their own projects/ideas/thoughts, potential partnering, trip planning, questions of experts, hockey scores, etc.] I would personally love that feature. Tied into the coolness of the loop (ads would be part of the business model there, too), I think you'd be on to something. That would work for Corvette owners as much as it would for Doggie Bling enthusiasts or Guy Kawasaki blog readers. Just a thought.
Very interesting stuff going on now. Stay tuned.
